In many cases, parents do not systematically plan their family language policies. Parents who are themselves multilingual or speak two or more different languages and live in an environment with a monolingual self-concept, as is the case in most European countries, might feel insecure or have questions about multilingualism in the family.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:30% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"378\" src=\"http:\/\/mamlise.home.amu.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/MaMLiSE-FOR-PARENTS-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mamlise.home.amu.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/MaMLiSE-FOR-PARENTS-3.jpg 500w, http:\/\/mamlise.home.amu.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/MaMLiSE-FOR-PARENTS-3-300x227.jpg 300w, http:\/\/mamlise.home.amu.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/MaMLiSE-FOR-PARENTS-3-397x300.jpg 397w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">There is no recipe for a multilingual upbringing as each family is different. Therefore, this website cannot provide one strategy for all families. It aims to give background information, show video testimonials from different countries and provide resources for families to find their individual way.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-1-color\">What is important to know is that:<\/span><\/strong><br>\u25cf All families are unique in their life circumstances, language repertoires and aims so there cannot just be one single approach.<br>\u25cf Balanced multilingualism, where a person is equally proficient in two or more languages, is a rare form of multilingualism and therefore not an adequate aim of a family language policy.<br>\u25cf All children need support in language acquisition in all their languages. Meaningful interactions are key.<br>\u25cf Language mixing is a natural form of communication.<br>\u25cf Life situations change over time \u2013 and so does language use.<br>\u25cf Family language policy is not about teaching languages but about communication in the close relationships within the family.<br>\u25cf There are many advantages for a child to develop their full language repertoire.
